On September 1, HUD published in the Federal Register a notice announcing the 2018 fair market rents (FMRs). The notice explains HUD’s calculation methodology and their responses to the comments they received on their May 2017 methodology notice. The September 1 notice also invites comments specifically in regards to whether an area’s FMR accurately represent the area. Such comments are due by October 1, 2017. If HUD receives no comments requesting a reevaluation of specific area figures, the FMRs will be effective October 2, 2017.
